Samy Rachid

Samy Rachid’s 2026/27 season marks a significant new chapter in his international career, with a return to the Boston Symphony Orchestra for subscription concerts alongside Jan Lisiecki, and debuts with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, Houston Symphony, Ulster Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Saito Kinen Orchestra. He also returns to the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonie Zuidnederland, NFM Wrocław Philharmonic and Auckland Philharmonia, among others.

Very committed to opera repertoire and following a highly successful debut at Opéra du Rhin conducting Lalo’s Le Roi d’Ys in the 2025/26 season, Rachid appears with Pene Pati and Amina Edris in performances in Scandinavia and France. 

Past seasons highlights include Cleveland Orchestra, Gulbenkian Orchestra, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Hamburger Symphoniker, Sinfonieorchester Basel, Gstaad Festival Orchestra, Verbier Festival Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra, Prague Philharmonia, National Symphony Orchestra Dublin, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic, Orchestre National de Lille, Orchestre Symphonique de Mulhouse, and Orchestre National de Montpellier.

Rachid’s tenure as Assistant Conductor of Andris Nelsons at Boston Symphony Orchestra (2023-2026) included acclaimed appearances at Boston Symphony Hall and the Tanglewood Music Center, where he has conducted the orchestra with distinguished artists including Midori, Renée Fleming, Yo-Yo Ma, and Pablo Ferrández. 

Working as Assistant Conductor of Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg in 2022, he took part in the Gstaad Conducting Academy, becoming the first French conductor to be awarded the Academy's Neeme Järvi Prize.

Formerly cellist of the Arod Quartet, Samy Rachid left the ensemble in 2021 to focus on conducting, winning 2nd Prize of the Tokyo International Music Competition for Conducting. 

His journey as cellist of the Arod Quartet allowed him to learn with great masters such as the Ebene Quartet and Artemis Quartet. In 2015, he won the 1st Prize and two special prizes at the Carl Nielsen String Quartet Competition and in 2016, the 1st Prize and two special prizes at the ARD Competition in Münich. He recorded several albums for Warner Classics.

Samy studied with Mathieu Herzog and assisted with Orchestre Appassionato on several projects, which included prestigious singers such as Roberto Alagna, Ludovic Tezier and Nadine Sierra.
